Dhaka: Tiger pacer Al Amin Hossain is the highest wicket-taker in the T20 format of 2016 so far. The pacer, who has been the ‘Coolest Player of the Series’ with the most wickets in the Asia Cup tournament, has picked up 22 wickets this year.
In 2016 (a calendar year) Al Amin is followed by Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. He took 21 wickets. Ashwin has played 15 matches this year, while Al Amin has played 14 matches.
The surprising thing is that there is no bowler outside Asia in the list of top ten wicket takers in T20 this year. There are three Bangladeshi bowlers in the list of top ten bowlers in this format.
Another Bangladeshi bowler Shakib Al Hasan is number three in this list. The world’s best all-rounder has played 16 matches in the short format of T20 and has taken 20 wickets so far. Shakib was followed by Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah with one wicket less. UAE’s Amjad Javed, Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi, India’s Ashish Nehra, UAE’s Mohammad Naveed, Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan and Bangladesh’s Mustafizur Rahman are in the next positions with 18 wickets each.
Tiger pacer Mustafiz took 16 wickets to stay at number ten. He played only 8 matches. He took maximum 5 wickets in the last match against New Zealand.
Earlier in the Asia Cup, Al Amin was a formidable bowler for the opposition. The right-arm pacer took the most 11 wickets in the tournament. Al Amin was accused of breach of discipline due to his mistakes in last year’s World Cup. As a result, he had to return home without playing the World Cup. He returned to the national team last November after being out of the team for a long time. He proved himself on the field in the Zimbabwe series for the Tigers.
